Everyone who has never been to Los Angeles thinks they know what it is. Palm trees, traffic, industry people at bad restaurants. That version of the city is real, technically, but it is also completely beside the point.

The actual L.A. is a Silver Lake backyard show that started three hours late because the person playing forgot they had it. It is a mural on Melrose that went up overnight and somehow nobody knows who did it. It is Low End Theory on a Wednesday, packed to the walls, Thundercat running warm-up sets before anyone in that room understood what they were witnessing.

Strange Allies made this for the people living in that version of the city. The ones in Boyle Heights and Leimert Park and Echo Park, the CalArts students and the USC film kids who stopped caring about film school halfway through and started throwing parties instead. The ones who drove to Desert Daze and stayed for all three days and came back different.

Art & Drugs & Music & L.A. is printed in heavy block type across the chest. It reads like a personal inventory. Like something you would write in a notebook at 3am and mean completely.

Kendrick Lamar grew up in Compton making music that eventually made the rest of the world reckon with itself. Flying Lotus has been folding jazz and electronics into something unclassifiable out of this city for years. The Doors existed here. N.W.A existed here. The lineage is long and it is still being written by people who are probably at a show right now in a venue with no sign out front.

That is who this is for. Wear it accordingly.
