Strange Allies made this hat as a direct response to every lazy narrative that ever got written about this city.

Detroit sits across the front in varsity block letters, thick and unapologetic in white on red, the kind of lettering you associate with a field house that has hosted forty years of championship-level effort from kids who had every reason to quit and did not. Beneath it, in retro script that reads like something off a diner window on Grand River Avenue, the words "Every block has a story." Brightmoor has one. West Village has one. Jefferson-Chalmers has one that the city is still writing in real time.

The Wayne State student who navigated Midtown on a budget and discovered the city one neighborhood at a time understands. The Tigers fan who has been to Comerica in every kind of weather understands. The person from East English Village who watched the block change and stayed anyway and built something there understands this hat at a cellular level.

It goes with everything because Detroit people are not precious about how they dress. They put things on that mean something and they walk out the door.

The snapback holds its structure through a Michigan winter and whatever comes after. The trucker is built to move. The dad hat is unstructured and low profile, no agenda, just the city's name sitting quietly on your head doing more work than it looks like it is doing.

As a souvenir it is the one that survives the trip home and keeps getting worn. Detroit tends to stick to people like that.
