There is a version of Chicago that never makes it into the travel guides. No riverwalk, no Magnificent Mile, no tourist with a deep dish photo. Just wide streets, front porches, murals that have been there longer than most buildings downtown, and a sense of place so specific it almost has its own accent.

That is the West Side. And Strange Allies is not going to water it down for you.

This tee has West Side arched across the chest in distressed block lettering that looks like it came off a varsity jacket from 1993 that someone's older cousin used to own. Chicago sits stamped underneath, smaller, like a footnote that still carries full weight. The whole print is worn and cracked in a way that reads as history, not trend.

The West Side is Garfield Park Conservatory on a Tuesday when nobody else is there. It is the United Center before a Blackhawks game when the neighborhood is loud and moving. It is Malcolm X College, it is Austin, it is Humboldt Park in the middle of summer when every block has something going on and none of it is on an event calendar.

Women who know this area wear it differently than anyone else would. There is a specific confidence that comes with putting West Side across your chest in a city that constantly overlooks it, and this cut, cropped at the waist or oversized depending on your mood, makes that confidence visible.

Somebody out there needs this as a gift before they move away. Somebody else is keeping it as a souvenir of the years they spent out here before life scattered everyone. Both reasons are completely valid. Neither needs to be explained.

The West Side does not ask for recognition. But it is not above wearing it.
