Most cities get represented by their skyline or their landmark or their flag. Tokyo gets all of that and then some, slapped onto every conceivable surface for export to people who have spent four days there and want something to prove it. The front of this baby tee puts Tokyo in kanji, two characters, the city's actual name written the way the city writes it. They are large, retro in the way Japanese graphic design from a specific era was retro, which is to say structured and confident and completely unbothered by what was happening anywhere else. Below them, "Tokyo Japan" in tight block text. The whole design has the quality of something that was always going to exist, it just needed someone to actually make it.

A Shimokitazawa regular layers it under a vintage jacket and it fits every corner of that neighborhood's particular aesthetic without trying.
The Y2K cut brings its own logic to this. True to size, cropped and close, it has the kind of fitted shape that Tokyo street style has been working with for decades under various names. Sized up, it goes loose and easy, the kind of relaxed silhouette that photographs well from Harajuku to Nakameguro without a single adjustment.
