Description

Kodiak is not a place that performs for anyone. The island operates on its own terms, in its own weather, at its own pace, and the people who end up there tend to stay longer than they planned. The shirt reflects that: Kodiak in distressed retro athletic lettering arched across the chest, with Alaska in a worn block stamp below, the whole graphic carrying the kind of weight that only comes from a name that means something real.

For fishermen, Coast Guard families, wildlife researchers, and anyone the island claimed without warning. The men/unisex cut is slightly slim, long sleeve and kids versions are regular fit. Available in black, dark green, heather gray, and navy blue. A souvenir for people who know what Kodiak actually is, and a gift worth sending to anyone who does.

Automatic donations to related charities

Fair ask. We’ve been creating anti-fascist and progressive art for over 25 years. Chicago made us, but now we’re full-time nomads making art and products that espouse our beliefs in human rights and social justice. We design things for the communities we come from and the ones we fight alongside, with a portion of sales donated to causes we support. We’re stubborn, loud, and allergic to neutrality. No fascists. No excuses.

Most of our items are available in a wide range of sizes. Additionally, most items are available in various styles. If you see a T-shirt design you like and want it on a hoodie, check the hoodies section or use the search bar. You can also customize the style and color of most designs in the custom section of our website.

Feel free to contact us if you can't find what you're looking for, and we'll do our best to make it happen.

We donate $1 of each item sold to non-profits and organizations supporting progressive, humanitarian, and justice-oriented causes around the world. All donations are automatically calculated and transferred to our charity partner every month to ensure compliance and timely processing.

We want you to love your Strange Gang goodies! If you're not completely satisfied with your purchase, you request a return for a refund or exchange within 7 days of receipt. Please note that all returns must be unworn and unwashed. Simply contact us at info@strangegang.com and we'll guide you through the process. Read more here. Important: Custom items cannot be returned for any reason, but damaged items can be replaced.

The Emerald Isle of Alaska

Kodiak Island sits in the Gulf of Alaska like it has nothing to prove, which is exactly the right attitude for a place this extraordinary. The Kodiak Archipelago is the second largest island in the United States. The bears are the largest land carnivores on earth. The fishing grounds surrounding the island have fed people and built economies for generations. None of this is exaggerated and none of it is dressed up for tourism.

The town of Kodiak itself has a working waterfront that does actual work. The commercial fishing fleet operating out of this harbor is one of the most productive in the country. During king crab and salmon seasons the docks are running around the clock and the whole town feels it. The Kodiak Crab Festival every May brings the community together in a way that is genuinely celebratory rather than performative, with carnival rides, survival suit races, and a parade that has been going since 1958.

Pillar Mountain looms over town and people run up it every March in a race that is as brutal as it sounds. Fort Abercrombie State Historical Park sits along the rugged coastline north of town with World War II gun emplacements still embedded in the headlands, surrounded by Sitka spruce and crashing surf. Buskin River State Recreation Site pulls anglers every season. The Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge covers most of the island and the brown bears within it have been the subject of scientific study for decades.

Strange Allies put Kodiak on a shirt because some places deserve to be worn with the same matter-of-fact pride the people there already carry. No explanation needed, no framing required. The distressed vintage lettering and retro athletic arch do their job and get out of the way.

This one is for the deckhands, the biologists, the teachers at Kodiak College, the kids who grew up watching eagles from the school window. Men/unisex, long sleeve, kids. Strange Allies. Kodiak, straight up.
