Some flags are meant to flatter power. This one is meant to make power uncomfortable.

The Canada Rebel Alliance flag takes our loon emblem and throws it into public space where it can actually do something. A maple leaf at the top. The rebel crest around it. A bird that reads like warning, witness, and refusal all at once. This is anti-fascist. This is a protest design. It is for people who care about human rights, equality, and community defense more than politeness, branding, or pretending everything is fine because a politician smiled on camera.

Strange Gang made this for the apartment window in Toronto that gets seen from the streetcar stop. For the porch in Halifax. For the balcony in Montreal. For the backyard fence in Winnipeg. For the house near the university blocks in Vancouver where everybody already knows who shows up when things go bad. It is for organizers, neighbors, students, punks, artists, parents, and anybody else done with the fake neutrality that always seems to protect the worst people in the room.

A good flag does not just decorate a place. It declares one.

That matters when hate keeps trying to pass itself off as common sense. That matters when people are being told to tone it down, calm it down, wait their turn, make it nicer, make it easier, make it quieter. No. Put it outside. Let it move in the wind. Let it become part of the block. Let people walking by know exactly where this home, this studio, this shop, or this shared house stands.

We took that charge and reworked it through our own Canada lens, with the loon carrying the message and the maple leaf locking it to place.

This is the kind of gift you get for someone who is already in motion. It is also the kind of souvenir worth keeping because it says more than “I was here.” It says “I was here, and I did not shut up.”
