Foreigner, and staying.
The song
Pop Will Eat Itself, the industrial band out of Stourbridge, England, released "Ich Bin Ein Ausländer" in 1994 on Dos Dedos Mis Amigos. They wrote it after the far-right British National Party won a London council seat in Millwall, and it went straight at racism and the way England talked about immigrants. It hit the UK Top 30, came out in the US on Trent Reznor's Nothing Records, and three decades later goth, industrial, and emo dance floors still shout every line.
What Ausländer means
Ausländer is German for foreigner. "Ausländer raus," foreigners out, has been a far-right chant in Germany for decades, and the word still follows immigrants, refugees, and their kids through government offices, schoolyards, and train platforms. Our stenciled Ausländer design wraps it in barbed wire and hands it right back. Our blackletter Ich Bin Ein Ausländer design, framed in the same barbed wire, is our tribute to the PWEI song.
Who it's for
Goth kids, industrial lifers, emo kids, immigrants, refugees, Gastarbeiter grandkids, and anyone who's been asked where they're really from. Wear it to the club, the march, or your next Ausländerbehörde appointment, and let everyone who wants walls know you're not going anywhere.
